Mohammed bin Rashid visits (DEWA's) building, awarded the platinum rating of green buildings

UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum made an inspection visit to the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA’s) Sustainable Building in the Al Quoz area of Dubai this evening. The building – one of the green buildings in the Emirate - was built on 340,000 square-feet of land. It is the first sustainable government building in the UAE and the largest government building in the world. It has attained the platinum rating for green buildings from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), and cost over AED 75 million. Accompanied by the Deputy Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; Sheikh Mohammed toured the various sections and floors of the building. He listened to a detailed description of the modern building components and architectural specifications, particularly the use of solar panels with a capacity of 660kW for electric power generation, which contributes to energy savings of about 66% and water conservation by 48%.
