UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has launched the UAE Suqia initiative to provide clean water to five million people worldwide. This will be accomplished by digging wells, along with providing water pumps and purification equipment, in needy areas. The campaign will start at the beginning of the Holy Month of Ramadan. Sheikh Mohammed presided over the first session of the Initiative’s Organizing Committee, held at the Executive Office in the presence of Deputy Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the importance of directing the committee to work in the areas where water is scarce, in coordination with competent international organizations, such as the Red Crescent Authority (RCA), and the UAE Embassies abroad.
