Mohammed bin Rashid honors winners of Islamic Economy Award

UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has honored today the winners of the Islamic Economy Award initiated by the Dubai Islamic Economy Development Centre (DIEDC), following the directive of Dubai Crown Prince, and organized by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Thomson Reuters. The ceremony was attended by the Crown Prince of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid presented Governor of Malaysia’s Central Bank Dr. Zeti Akhtar Aziz with the Life-time Achievement Award. Moreover, Hajj Saeed bin Ahmed Al Lootah, founder of the world’s first Islamic bank, received a special recognition from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed for his remarkable contribution to the Islamic Economy. The Money and Finance category was received by the Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD) from Saudi Arabia; while the award in the Food and Health category went to Salma, an entity of Awqaf & Minor Affairs from the UAE; and the Media category to The 99, an initiative of Teshkeel Media Group from Kuwait. Awards in other categories including Hospitality and Tourism were presented to Halal Minds from Indonesia; Waqf and Endowments category went to National Awqaf Foundation of South Africa; SME Development category to LaunchGood from USA; Islamic Economy Knowledge Infrastructure category to Kuwait Finance House’s (KFH) Baitak Research Company from Kuwait and Islamic Arts category to the singer Yusuf Islam. Commenting on the event, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said: "We, in the UAE, have always been at the forefront of recognizing the importance of Islamic Economy. Also we had the lead in introducing the first Islamic banking experience in the world. Today, under the futuristic vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, we are exerting efforts to have the lead of developing the existing sectors of Islamic Economy and creating new horizons for other sectors in order to secure sustainable growth for Islamic economy.”
