Maktoum bin Mohamed inaugurates Union of International Transport Congress

Deputy Ruler of Dubai H.H. Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum inaugurated the 2014 edition of the Union of International Transport Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Congress, under the auspices of Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The congress is host to a number of Arab ministers, directors of government departments and agencies, and 400 delegates from 25 countries. The ceremonies began with a documentary screening about the Road and Transport Authority’s development of Dubai’s mass transit system. The film gave an historical account of mass transit’s growth in Dubai until the present day, with a view towards the future. In the past, the mass transit system was limited to ferries and a small number of buses. Today, the mass transit system has developed into a comprehensive system that includes Dubai Metro (the world longest driverless metro network) and over 1,300 internationally standardized modern buses. This remarkable land transit system is accompanied by an equally first-rate maritime transit system that includes Dubai Ferry and a number of water buses and taxis.
